Researchers will invent a new type of lithium air battery

Lithium-ion batteries are used in our cell phones and laptops. Now, a lithium-air battery has become the "future battery" in the eyes of scientists.

The reporter learned yesterday that Wuhan scientists from the Wuhan University of Science and Technology-Harvard University Nano Joint Key Laboratory are generating enough power for the battery. Their research attracted the attention and positive evaluation of Prof. Weiting Han, who made the world's first lithium battery. His latest results were published online on the 12th of this month in the internationally renowned journal PNAS.

For years, researchers have been hoping to use lithium-air batteries instead of traditional lithium-ion batteries because lithium-ion batteries have more than 10 times more power than the best-performing lithium-ion batteries.

In 2009, Prof. Ma Liqiang, who was introduced by Wuhan University of Technology, took the lead, Wuhan University of Technology and Harvard University set up a joint nano-key laboratory. Mai Liqiang introduced that lithium-air batteries have been rapidly developed in recent years with large capacity and large energy density electrochemical cells.

It is understood that the principle of lithium-air battery power generation is the oxidation of lithium metal to produce lithium ions and electrons, lithium ions, electrons and oxygen molecules in the air to carry out the reduction reaction, thereby generating electricity.

Because air is readily available, people can make lithium-air batteries lighter and smaller without having to worry about fuel storage space. (Reporter Li Jia)
