Xiong Xiang said that the new ceramic coating modified carbon/carbon composite material consists of a quaternary boron-containing single-phase carbide consisting of zirconium, titanium, carbon, and boron elements, with a stable carbide crystal structure, mainly through infiltration. In the process, a multi-ceramic phase was introduced into a porous carbon/carbon composite. This ultra-high temperature ceramic combines the high temperature adaptability of carbides and the oxidation resistance of boride, giving it excellent ablation resistance and thermal shock resistance.

It is reported that this is the first time in the world to synthesize the quaternary boron-containing carbide single-phase super-high-temperature ceramic material and make a coating, which is a perfect "fusion" of carbon-carbon material.
