From February 6th to 10th, the 2013 St. Petersburg International Jewelry Fair took place at the Leningrad Exhibition Center in the city. This year’s event was particularly special as it aimed to honor two major historical milestones: the 250th anniversary of Empress Catherine II's ascension to the Russian throne and the 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty's founding. As a result, the exhibition featured a stunning replica of the original imperial crown, which had been used by Russian emperors for centuries.
The replica was crafted based on the original design of Catherine II’s crown, but with modern updates. Instead of silver, the piece was made using platinum, giving it a more luxurious and timeless appearance. The number of diamonds also increased significantly—from 4,936 to an impressive 11,000—showcasing the craftsmanship of 60 skilled jewelers who worked tirelessly over the course of two months to complete the project.
This crown, originally worn by Catherine II, remained in use throughout the Russian imperial era, including by the last emperor, Nicholas II. Its presence at the fair not only celebrated Russia’s rich history but also highlighted the enduring legacy of its royal heritage. Visitors were captivated by the intricate details and the historical significance of the piece, making it one of the most talked-about exhibits of the event.
