Bicycle design and verification based on SolidWorks Premium

This article explains how to use SolidWorks Premium for designing and validating a bicycle. SolidWorks Premium is an all-in-one software package that combines mechanical CAD, design validation, communication, and productivity tools into one easy-to-use application. It enables users to move quickly from concept development to building virtual prototypes, ensuring high-quality results in less time than ever before. With its comprehensive features, SolidWorks Premium allows designers to start with a product idea and gradually develop accurate virtual models without needing any other software. Bicycles, originally introduced to China from Western countries, are also known as two-wheeled land vehicles. They have become a common mode of transportation worldwide, used by millions every day. Bicycles rely on human power through pedaling, making them a green and eco-friendly option for travel. In today’s competitive market, bicycle design has become a critical and professional field. Countries with advanced bicycle industries invest heavily in research and development, achieving significant progress. Although China is the world's largest bicycle producer, there is still a gap in terms of design quality compared to international standards. To improve China’s bicycle industry, it is essential to focus on innovation and creativity in the design process. As people’s expectations grow, bicycles must not only be practical and durable but also visually appealing. Designers typically begin with a general aesthetic concept, which guides the entire design flow. The first step involves sketching ideas based on functionality and design intent, as shown in Figure 1. The overall concept serves as the foundation for detailed design. For example, the rear fork can be refined as shown in Figure 2. This part plays a crucial role in the frame, especially with the evolution of disc brakes and gear systems, making it even more vital. Most rear forks on a bicycle are symmetrical. Using SolidWorks, we can create one side and then mirror it for the other. As illustrated in Figures 3 and 4, this approach simplifies complex designs and reduces the time needed to transition from traditional methods to 3D modeling. The five-way section is another key component that affects comfort and durability. As shown in Figure 5, this part requires careful design. SolidWorks makes it easy to model complex shapes using commands like extrude, cut, sweep, and fillet, as demonstrated in Figures 6 and 7. Designing the shock mount also requires attention to both aesthetics and safety. SolidWorks Premium helps designers verify their concepts while working, allowing real-time simulation and analysis. As shown in Figure 8, the design intent is clear, and the model is displayed in Figure 9. Through simulation (Figure 10), we can confirm the part’s safety and performance, avoiding costly physical experiments. Additionally, optimizing material usage by modifying hole patterns can reduce costs, as seen in Figure 11. Finally, after assembling all parts, the final result matches the original design intent, as shown in Figure 12. In conclusion, the Shiwei International solution, integrated with SolidWorks Premium, streamlines bicycle design and enables efficient force simulation, saving time and ensuring product quality. It also supports standard frame analysis, including fatigue, impact, and vibration tests, helping the industry accelerate development, reduce physical testing, and enhance competitiveness. Shiwei International, established in 1997, offers comprehensive solutions in CAID, CAD, RP, RE, CAE, CAM, and PDM. With over 5,000 companies trained in Taiwan and mainland China, Shiwei provides expert consulting, training, and customized services. Headquartered in Neihu, Taipei, Shiwei operates across multiple locations in China and Taiwan, supporting clients with cutting-edge technology and experienced teams.

IP Protection Sensors

IP protection sensors are devices that are used to monitor and protect intellectual property (IP) assets. These sensors can be physical or digital and are designed to detect and prevent unauthorized access, copying, or theft of valuable IP.

Physical IP protection sensors may include security cameras, motion detectors, and access control systems. These sensors are installed in areas where IP assets are stored or accessed, such as research labs, manufacturing facilities, or server rooms. They can detect any unauthorized entry or tampering attempts and trigger alarms or notifications to alert security personnel.

Digital IP protection sensors are software-based tools that monitor and protect digital IP assets, such as software code, designs, or confidential documents. These sensors can track and log user activities, detect unauthorized access attempts, and apply encryption or other security measures to protect sensitive information. They can also detect and prevent data breaches or leaks by monitoring network traffic and detecting anomalies or suspicious behavior.

Overall, IP protection sensors play a crucial role in safeguarding valuable intellectual property and ensuring that it remains secure and confidential.
