Home decoration pipe selection skills

Home decoration often overlooks the importance of selecting the right water pipes and their diameters. After moving in, many issues can arise, such as water leaks that damage the interior, low water pressure, or even a water heater that fails to start. These problems can be costly and inconvenient, making it essential to pay attention to this critical part of the home setup. When choosing water pipes, they must meet health and safety standards. The material should comply with national sanitary regulations before being used. However, clean water is not solely dependent on the quality of the pipeline itself. It also depends on whether the pipe can resist oxygen penetration from the outside. Over time, oxygen entering the pipe can lead to bacterial growth, scaling, and algae buildup, all of which can contaminate the water. Therefore, when purchasing plastic pipes for your home, it’s wise to ask the seller for a quality inspection report and avoid cheap products without proper labeling or origin information. Aluminum-plastic composite pipes are a popular choice due to their low pressure loss, ease of transport, and flexibility. They can be cut and installed easily, making them convenient for construction. However, their fittings are usually made of pure copper, which makes them more expensive. These pipes consist of high-density polyethylene sandwiched between two layers of aluminum, giving them good heat resistance, as polyethylene has a melting point of 140°C. When paired with ferrule nut or steel sleeve clamp fittings, they offer a reliable and secure connection. PP-R pipes are considered a green and reliable option in the plumbing industry. Compared to aluminum-plastic pipes, they are more cost-effective, and their fittings are installed externally, which helps maintain a smooth water flow. However, PP-R pipes should not be left unsupported for long distances. A support bracket should be placed every 50 cm or so to prevent sagging or bending, which can affect performance over time. PE pipes have a simpler structure and do not perform as well as aluminum-plastic pipes. They are mainly used for underfloor heating systems, which are typically installed by professionals. As a result, they are rarely used in regular home decoration projects. PVC-U pipes are connected using glue, but they can become loose when exposed to heat. They are best suited for underground or buried pipelines. For large-diameter, high-pressure applications, special brackets must be designed, especially at bends, where water flow can cause significant stress. Due to these limitations, PVC-U pipes are generally not recommended for use in residential water supply systems. Copper pipes offer excellent hygiene properties but come at a higher cost. They are typically joined through welding or threaded fittings. However, once installed, they can be vulnerable to damage during future renovations or construction work, making them less ideal for some home setups. Choosing the right type of water pipe is crucial for ensuring both the safety and efficiency of your home's plumbing system. Taking the time to research and select the appropriate materials can save you from future headaches and expenses.
