Experts recommend water heaters to identify the anti-electric wall

In early August, the Zhejiang Dongyang Consumer Rights Protection Committee issued a consumer warning about water heaters that have exceeded their service life. According to the warning, once a water heater has been in use for over eight years, it should be replaced immediately. Similar warnings were also issued by the Shanghai Consumer Protection Committee. However, upon visiting local neighborhoods, reporters found that many residents still choose to keep their aging water heaters, often saying “if it still works, why replace it?” This reflects a lack of awareness regarding safety risks. Some units are even installed without following national safety standards and continue to be used despite significant dangers. Experts emphasize that improving public safety awareness is essential, but more importantly, strict adherence to national safety regulations must be enforced. Water heaters that have exceeded their recommended lifespan pose serious risks, including water leakage, electrical faults, and gas leaks. These issues can lead to severe accidents if not addressed promptly. The China Consumers Association has pointed out that most electric water heater accidents are linked to aging equipment, outdated wiring, internal tank leaks, and the absence of anti-electric wall technology as required by national standards. Without this feature, the built-in leakage protector may fail to function properly, sometimes even increasing the risk of electric shocks. This is particularly concerning because many older models still rely on these outdated protection systems. The "anti-electric wall" technology was introduced as a national standard in 2007 by the China Household Electrical Appliances Standardization Committee. Developed by Haier, this patented technology addresses common safety issues such as non-grounded wiring, aging cables, and faulty switches. It effectively isolates the current inside the heated tank caused by leaks and prevents damage from improper grounding or water pipes. After being adopted as a national standard in 2008, the "anti-electric wall" underwent rigorous testing by the International Electrotechnical Commission and was included in the latest version of the "Special Requirements for Safe Storage Water Heaters for Household and Similar Electrical Appliances." Experts recommend that consumers look for the "anti-electric wall" feature when purchasing new water heaters. The principle behind this technology is simple: it creates a high resistance between the user and the water, reducing the voltage during a leak and preventing electric shocks. According to Haier, even with 220V applied to the inner tank, the technology ensures no harm comes to the user. Haier’s anti-electric wall technology has not only become an international standard but has also prevented over 25 million incidents. As the first national standard developed from an enterprise patent in Chinese household appliances, it represents a major milestone in the industry. Thanks to this advanced safety technology, Haier has led the way in making water heaters more energy-efficient and intelligent, meeting the real needs of users. According to the British Institute of Building Services Research and Information (BSRIA), Haier water heaters ranked first globally in both overall sales and electric water heater market share, with 9% and 17% respectively. They were also recognized as a "world-famous brand." Industry analysts believe that while consumer preferences evolve, safety remains the top priority, especially for products that involve both water and electricity. Therefore, they advise users to always check for the "anti-electric wall" standard when buying a water heater to ensure their safety and avoid potential hazards.
