Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: Import and Export in July 2010

From January to July, the total import and export volume of the country was 1,617 billion US dollars [1], a year-on-year increase of 40.9%; of which, exports were 850.5 billion US dollars, up 35.6%; imports were 766.6 billion US dollars, up 47.2%; achieving trade surplus of 83.9 billion US dollars, down 21.9 %.

Exports reached a new high in the month. In July, the total import and export volume of the country increased by 30.8% year-on-year and 3% quarter-on-quarter; among them, exports increased by 38.1%, a year-on-year increase of 5.9%; imports increased by 22.7%, a decrease of 0.4% from the previous month; and the trade surplus reached US$28.7 billion. Compared with the same period in 2008, the total import and export volume in July increased by 5.4%, while imports and exports increased by 6.3% and 4.4% respectively.

Import and export of steel has fallen back. In July, exports of steel increased by 1.5 times year-on-year, and imported steel fell by 19.5%.

Crude oil imports have decreased and iron ore imports have increased. In July, crude oil imports fell by 3.3%; iron ore imports fell by 11.8%.

Copper imports have rebounded and aluminum imports continue to decline. In July, imports of unwrought copper and copper fell by 15.7%; unwrought aluminum and aluminum fell by 69.7% (higher base in the same period last year); alumina imports fell by 55.7%.

The export of textile products has grown steadily. In July, the export value of textiles, clothing and footwear increased by 35.1%, 23.1% and 36.3% respectively, the luggage increased by 61.3%, and the growth of plastic products, lamps, toys and furniture was between 28% and 46.6%, except for furniture exports. Compared with the previous month, the export volume of other products has increased compared with the previous month.

The export of mechanical and electrical products continued to improve. In July, the export value of mechanical and electrical products and high-tech products increased by 37.5% and 30% respectively; the export value of mobile phones, color TVs and computers increased by 12.3%, 25.5% and 32.7% respectively.
