China's agricultural resources are gradually decreasing, while the demand for livestock products is continuously rising. To address this challenge, factory farming has become a key solution. This approach involves using industrial methods, modern technology, and advanced equipment to create optimal conditions for raising livestock and poultry. By doing so, it helps maximize their production potential, leading to more efficient and sustainable animal product output.
In recent years, the factory aquaculture industry in China has seen significant growth. For instance, there are nearly 3,000 large-scale pig farms across the country, and the scale of small farmer operations is also expanding. Although these smaller farms may not match the facilities of large-scale operations, they still represent early forms of factory farming. To cut costs, many of these farms have their own feed processing units that produce custom compound feeds. From an investment perspective, most pig farms and breeding households use vertical feed processing systems, such as the 9PS series. These units combine a crusher and mixer, offering energy efficiency and practicality. The process typically involves purchasing pre-mixed ingredients, which are then crushed and mixed with Other raw materials to form a balanced feed. However, there are some limitations to this system.
First, the mixing uniformity is often insufficient. Premixed feeds require high consistency because they contain trace elements like vitamins and minerals, which make up only a tiny fraction—sometimes as little as one part per 100,000. Therefore, the coefficient of variation (CV) for premixed feed should be below 7% to ensure even distribution and prevent nutritional imbalances in animals. However, vertical mixers used in many small farms can only achieve a CV of around 10%, which may lead to uneven nutrient distribution in the final feed. This can affect the health and growth of livestock.
Second, there is often a high residual amount after each batch, causing inconsistencies between different feed batches. Vertical mixers work by rotating a spiral at high speed to lift the material from the bottom to the top, where it is gradually mixed. However, heavy components like minerals tend to separate due to centrifugal force, reducing mixing effectiveness. Additionally, the gaps in the spiral are relatively large—up to 10 mm—which can leave a significant residue in the mixer. Inconsistent operation, such as improper timing or incorrect premix ratios, further contributes to variability between batches. This can result in nutritional imbalances, leading to issues like tail biting or poor growth in pigs. When such problems occur, it’s essential to evaluate not just the feed formula or raw material quality, but also the suitability of the mixing equipment. Choosing the right mixer can make a big difference in ensuring consistent, high-quality feed for livestock.
