According to recent news reports, Dalian City experienced heavy rainfall, which led to a surge in lost items, particularly license plates. Many residents reported that their phones and other personal belongings had gone missing, with some even claiming they had lost their vehicles. In just two days, the city received hundreds of reports, with approximately one-third of the cases involving lost license plates. According to staff at the lost and found offices, the actual number of lost plates is likely much higher than the reported figures.
To address this issue, the Lost and Found Management Office of the Dalian Patrol Detachment has been actively working to return lost license plates to their rightful owners. They have coordinated with city-wide lost and found centers to ensure that information is shared promptly and that lost items are returned as quickly as possible. Additionally, the patrol detachment has been reissuing license plate information provided by local radio stations. So far, more than a dozen license plates have been successfully returned to their owners.
Experts from the car repair industry have also weighed in on the problem. They explained that many drivers use a quick method to install license plates—fixing them with two self-tapping screws directly onto the front bumper. However, since most bumpers are made of plastic, the installation is not as secure as it should be. During heavy rain, water accumulates on the roads, and when vehicles pass over puddles, the pressure and buoyancy can cause the license plates to dislodge and fall off.
The situation has raised concerns among both drivers and authorities, prompting calls for more secure and durable methods of license plate installation. The Dalian Patrol Detachment is urging drivers to be cautious and take extra measures to prevent future losses. As the city continues to recover from the storm, efforts remain focused on helping residents reclaim their lost property and improving safety standards for vehicle identification.
