According to recent news reports, Dalian City experienced heavy rainfall, leading to a surge in lost items, particularly license plates. Many residents reported losing their phones and other personal belongings, with some claiming that their vehicles had also been affected. Over the course of two days, local authorities received hundreds of reports, with approximately one-third of the incidents involving lost license plates. According to staff at the lost and found offices, the actual number of missing plates is likely much higher than what has been officially recorded.
In response to this issue, officials from the lost and found department reached out to car repair technicians for insight. They discovered that many drivers use a quick method to install license plates by securing them with two self-tapping screws on the front bumper. However, since the bumper is made of plastic, the installation is not as stable as it should be. During heavy rain, water accumulates on the roads, and when vehicles pass through puddles, the pressure and buoyancy can cause the license plates to detach.
To address this growing problem, the Dalian Patrol Detachment's Lost and Found Management Office is working diligently to return lost license plates to their rightful owners. They have coordinated with city-wide lost and found centers to ensure timely communication and prompt returns. Additionally, the patrol detachment has been actively reissuing information about the lost plates through the traffic radio station. So far, more than a dozen license plates have been successfully returned to their owners, but the team continues to work tirelessly to recover the rest.
