1. Static Safety Workbench
a. The static safety workbench is a fundamental element of an anti-static work area. It typically includes a workbench, an anti-static mat, a wrist strap connector, and a grounding wire. This setup ensures that static charges are safely dissipated during operations involving sensitive electronic components.
b. The anti-static mat should have at least two wrist strap connectors—one for the operator and another for technicians, inspectors, or other personnel working in the area. This helps maintain proper grounding for all individuals involved.
c. If necessary, the static safety workbench can be equipped with an ionizing air static eliminator to neutralize static charges on non-conductive surfaces.
d. It is strictly prohibited to place items such as plastic boxes, rubber, cardboard, or glass on the workbench, as these materials can generate static electricity. All documents and materials should be stored in anti-static bags to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage.
2. Anti-Static Wristbands
All personnel who handle electrostatic-sensitive devices must wear anti-static wristbands. These should make good contact with the skin and not cause any irritation or allergic reactions. The resistance of the wristband system to ground should be within the range of 10ⶠto 10⸠ohms, ensuring safe and effective static dissipation.
3. Anti-Static Containers
During the development and production of electronic equipment, all containers used for storing or transporting SSDs (Static-Sensitive Devices) must provide electrostatic protection. This includes component bags, transfer boxes, printed circuit boards, and storage containers. Metal and regular plastic containers are not allowed. If needed, storage bins should be grounded to ensure proper static control.
4. Ion Wind Static Eliminators
Ion wind static eliminators are used to remove static charges from insulating materials. They work by emitting ionized air that neutralizes the static charge on surfaces, reducing the risk of ESD events.
5. Anti-Static Coveralls
Personnel entering the anti-static work area or handling SSDs should wear anti-static coveralls. The fabric used should meet the requirements specified in GB 12014. In environments with relative humidity above 50%, pure cotton products may be used as an alternative.
6. Anti-Static Work Shoes
Individuals entering the anti-static work area or handling SSDs must wear anti-static work shoes that comply with the standards set in GB 4385. Regular shoes are generally acceptable, but they must be used with conductive shoe inserts or heel straps to ensure proper grounding.
7. Anti-Static Transport Vehicles
When transporting SSDs or entire units containing SSDs, it is essential to use vehicles with anti-static properties. These vehicles help prevent static buildup during transit, ensuring the safety of sensitive components.
