BYD and Yulin invest in photovoltaic project

On December 22, the Yulin Municipal Government of Shaanxi Province held an investment conference in Beijing at the Beijing International Hotel. During the event, Deputy Mayor Mao Zhongsheng and Yu Zhanfeng, General Manager of BYD Shangluo Area, signed a landmark agreement for a 500MW photovoltaic power station project in Yulin. This initiative marks a significant step in promoting clean energy and sustainable development in the region. According to BYD representative Jiang, the project will be implemented in three stages, with the first phase targeting 200MW by the end of 2013. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to generate over 700 million kWh annually, directly feeding into the local grid and benefiting from national solar subsidies at 1 yuan per kWh. Compared to traditional coal-fired power, the project will save around 250,000 tons of coal yearly, reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 750,000 tons, and operate without water consumption or pollution. A government official from Yulin expressed gratitude for BYD’s contribution, emphasizing that the project aligns with national green energy policies and supports sustainable development. It will help optimize the city's energy mix, ease power shortages, and support economic growth while promoting environmental protection. The project also serves as a model for future investments in renewable energy. Yulin boasts favorable conditions for solar energy development, including vast areas of unused land such as deserts, saline-alkali soils, and abandoned mining sites. The region has abundant solar resources, with annual radiation reaching 5,500–6,000 MJ/m². Additionally, Yulin has established five key advantages for building a photovoltaic industry base, including a strong energy supply system, robust grid infrastructure, and access to chemical raw materials from its chlor-alkali industry. BYD continues to expand its global presence in the new energy sector, driven by a focus on innovation and long-term green energy strategies. The company has successfully launched projects in Brazil, South Africa, and Japan, and its solar products now reach markets across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Southeast Asia. This partnership between BYD and Yulin represents a crucial milestone in the company’s broader vision for clean energy. Looking ahead, BYD aims to deepen collaborations with governments and developers worldwide, helping countries reduce reliance on fossil fuels and build a cleaner, more sustainable future. By doing so, the company hopes to leave a lasting legacy of a brighter sky and clearer waters for generations to come.
