Currently, on the market, some manufacturers claim their splitting machines have a splitting force of 500T or 600T, even though they only produce equipment with a 100-ton capacity. This exaggeration is clearly intended to mislead customers. Let me explain in detail how to identify the actual splitting force of a splitting machine. To understand the splitting force of a splitter, you need to grasp its working principle. A splitter consists of two main parts: the pump station and the splitter itself. The high-pressure oil generated by the pump station drives the cylinder to produce a tremendous thrust. As the central wedge moves forward within the wedge assembly, it pushes the opposing wedges outward, thereby generating the splitting force. Therefore, the splitting force depends on the cylinder, the driving wedge, and the opposing wedge. Larger cylinders result in greater splitting forces. Similarly, better-quality wedges improve the splitting force. The term “cylinder” specifically refers to the inner diameter of the splitter’s cylinder, which determines the size of the piston—not the outer diameter of the cylinder. Our company currently produces three series of splitters with bore diameters of 80mm, 90mm, and 105mm. The 80mm and 90mm series are made from steel and aviation-grade aluminum, while the 105mm series is exclusively made from aviation aluminum. The use of aviation aluminum reduces the overall weight of the splitting machine, addressing a common issue where customers struggle to differentiate between quality and substandard products due to varying weights among manufacturers. The critical factors here are the internal diameter of the cylinder and the material's strength. However, many customers lack the ability to accurately assess the cylinder's inner diameter. When the splitting gun operates, ultra-high-pressure hydraulic oil pushes the piston rod forward, which in turn drives the central wedge to split the target object. Thus, the weight of the splitting gun isn’t the sole determinant of its effectiveness. What truly matters is whether the hydraulic system and all components can handle the required high pressure during operation. Products that meet these criteria are considered reliable. In this context, lighter products are easier to maneuver and transport. Poor-quality products tend to be heavier, while superior ones remain lightweight. This difference arises because inferior materials must be excessively thickened to compensate for their low strength. By contrast, using aviation aluminum and advanced manufacturing techniques allows us to create products that are both lightweight and robust. For instance, comparing products with identical specifications—such as a pressure rating of 63MPa, a bore diameter of 90mm, and a stroke length of 225mm—the average manufacturer’s splitting guns weigh approximately 80 pounds. In contrast, our company’s products weigh around 70 pounds. When using aviation aluminum, the weight drops to about 45 pounds. For another specification—63MPa pressure, 80mm bore diameter, and 200mm stroke length—the average manufacturer’s splitting guns weigh roughly 72 pounds, whereas ours weigh only about 60 pounds. With aviation aluminum, the weight further decreases to approximately 35 pounds. This significant reduction in weight considerably eases the workload for daily users, lowering physical strain and boosting productivity. Ryerson’s splitting machine products are rated at 63MPa, but before delivery, they undergo rigorous testing up to 80MPa.
